I would like to add my voice to others who have been eulogizing this great Nigerian. My only encounter with this unique man was during my oral examination in 1993 while defending my research project. He was acting as external examiner at the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. I have never met such a simple examiner again since that day. The posture displayed by this man revealed to me that I have won the battle. He took me for what I was and gave sincere appraisal of what I did. He praised my area of strength and accepted my limitation as undergrad who was just being introduced to the tenets of research.

No matter how long we stay on this surface of earth, the ultimate is death and what remains of us is our contributions to knowledge, societies, communities and to any individual we come across. It gives me joy whenever I mentioned his name to my students as one of the GURUS who has contributed to spinal studies and of course as a Nigerian.
